IT major Infosys has issued an internal advisory to its employees at the Hinjewadi Phase II campus in Pune, suggesting they bring their own meals from home.

The move comes as the campus faces unexpected disruptions in the supply of Liquified Petroleum Gas (Gas), which has significantly impacted the operational capacity of the office cafeterias and food courts.

LPG Supply Chain Disruptions Impact on Infosys

The advisory was sent via email to thousands of employees working at one of the company’s largest development centers.

According to the communication, the vendors managing the food courts are currently struggling with a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders.

This supply constraint has led to a limited menu and reduced food availability during peak lunch and dinner hours.

While the company is working with suppliers to restore normalcy, the advisory serves as a preemptive measure to ensure employees do not face difficulties during their work shifts.

The campus, which houses a massive workforce, relies heavily on these centralized kitchens to cater to staff across multiple buildings.

Impact on Campus Operations

The shortage is reportedly linked to local logistical hurdles and a temporary spike in demand affecting commercial gas distributors in the Pune region.

While essential services within the campus remain operational, the heat-intensive cooking processes required for a full-scale cafeteria menu have been curtailed.

Employees have been informed that some food counters may remain open with limited snacks or dry food options.

However, a full meal service cannot be guaranteed until the supply chain stabilizes.

The company has not provided a specific timeline for when regular food services will resume.

However, they have assured staff that they are exploring alternative arrangements to bridge the gap.

A Growing Concern for IT Hubs

This situation highlights the vulnerability of large-scale corporate infrastructures to local utility and supply chain fluctuations.

As more employees return to physical offices, the demand for campus facilities has surged.

Similar issues have been sporadically reported across other IT parks in the Hinjewadi area. Infosys is among the first to proactively issue a formal advisory.

The “lunch box” culture returns to the forefront at the Hinjewadi campus for now. The tech giant is currently navigating these logistical constraints.
